Rooms that take an 8ft tree
Eight feet is 244cm. With a stand and a topper you need around 2.7m of ceiling, which rules out most modern living rooms but suits Victorian and Edwardian houses, stairwells, hotel lobbies and commercial spaces. The spread is 140 to 170cm, so allow a clear floor area of about 2m across. These trees ship in two or three boxes and are a two-person lift.
The trees
The Dorchester spruce and the Ben Nevis pine with pinecones and berries are the fullest unlit trees. The Grand River pine carries frosted pinecones, the Bishop pine is snow flocked, and the snow-tipped grey fir has cashmere-style tips. The slim pencil pine at £74.99 is the narrow option for a hall. Pre-lit versions of the Ben Nevis and the Firefly carry 480 and 600 warm white LEDs.
Lighting and dressing an 8ft tree
Plan on 800 LEDs for medium coverage on an unlit tree, which usually means two 400 LED sets or a single 1,000 LED set with the lit length checked against the tree's height. One hundred to 120 baubles dresses an 8ft tree, with the largest pieces on the bottom third. For commercial trees above 8ft, see the commercial trees range.
Common questions
What ceiling height do I need for an 8ft tree?
About 2.7m: the tree is 244cm, the stand adds a few centimetres, and a topper needs 15 to 30cm above the top of the tree.
How many lights does an 8ft tree need?
Around 800 LEDs for medium coverage, or 1,200 for a dense look. Two sets are often easier to handle than one very long set.
Do you sell trees taller than 8ft?
The 9ft Winchester pine is in the main trees range, and larger display trees for shops and venues are under commercial displays.
