A Christmas shop that lists the measurements

Christmas Tree Warehouse sells artificial trees from 2ft to 8ft, LED light sets from 20 to 5,000 bulbs, baubles by the piece and by the box, wreaths and garlands, decorations for inside the house, lit displays for the garden, and commercial props for venues: 1,233 products from UK stock. What sets the listings apart is the detail. Every tree gives its height in feet and centimetres, its tip count and what is in the box. Every light set gives its bulb count, bulb colour, cable colour, lit length, lead length and power source. Every outdoor piece says whether it is rated for outside and how it is fixed. Those are the numbers that decide whether something fits, and they come from the makers' own specifications: Festive, Premier, Snow Time, Noma, Three Kings, Lumineo and Christmas Creations.

Finding the right tree

Start with the ceiling. A 6ft tree suits a 2.4m room with space for a topper; a 7ft tree wants 2.5m; a 5ft tree fits a flat or a dining room. The 5ft, 6ft, 7ft and 8ft pages gather every tree of a size, lit and unlit, so the comparison is between trees that would actually fit. Lighting it

One hundred LEDs per foot of tree for medium coverage is the planning figure, so 600 for a 6ft tree, with the lit length checked so the string wraps rather than bunches. The lights department is sorted by type, and the warm white, multi coloured, battery, timer and outdoor pages gather sets by the thing people usually search for.

Outside and in

For the garden there are rope light silhouettes and motifs, light-up reindeer in rattan and wire, acrylic figures, inflatables, path lights and lamp posts, all with their IP rating and power source listed. For inside, infinity lights and lit ornaments, nutcrackers, water spinners, village scenes, stockings and advent calendars, most of them battery or USB so nothing trails to a socket. For shopping centres, garden centres and events, the commercial range has giant props, printed backdrops and animatronics at display scale.
