How the timer works
The timer is a 24-hour cycle that starts when you turn the set on. Press the button at 4pm and the lights run until 10pm, then come back on at 4pm tomorrow. There is no clock to set and no dusk sensor; if you want the lights to come on earlier, switch them off and on again at the new time. Most sets also have a memory function, which keeps the chosen light mode after a power cut so the set does not revert to the default chase.
Mains and battery
On mains sets the timer lives in the controller near the transformer. On battery sets it is in the battery box, and it is what makes a battery set practical: 6 hours a night is what gives a set of AA batteries several weeks of use instead of a few days. All the battery sets here have one.
Which sets have one
Treebrights and Supabrights tree lights, most cluster sets, every snowing icicle set, nets and curtains, the pathfinder stake sets and the Fit and Forget battery range. If you have an older set without a timer, a plug-in timer from lighting accessories adds the same schedule to any mains set.
Common questions
Can I change the timer from 6 hours?
Not on built-in timers; the 6 on, 18 off cycle is fixed. A plug-in timer gives you any schedule on a mains set.
Does the timer remember the setting after a power cut?
On sets with a memory function, the light mode is remembered. The timer itself restarts from the moment power returns, so you may need to switch off and on again to reset the start time.
Do battery sets have a timer?
All the battery sets here do. It is in the battery box and is what gives them weeks of use on one set of batteries.
